Selenium Content in Feed and Cows’ Blood Serum in the Central-eastern Poland
نویسندگان
چکیده
The work aimed at determining to what degree cattle herds were threatened with selenium deficiency on the basis of the concentration of this element in soil, feeds, and the blood serum of dry and lactating cows (in the 2, 4, and 6 week of drying, and in the 2, 4, and 6 week of lactation, respectively). The analysis of cow’s body supply with selenium showed that selected dairy cattle farms in the Central-Eastern Poland were threatened with the deficiency of this element. Moderate hyposelenosis was found in the herds, whose state was requiring feed supplementation with selenium. Selenium concentration in cows’ serum depended on the animal physiological condition, as well as the selenium concentration in soil and feeds, that the animals had received. An increase in the selenium level, amounting to 214.4, 226.0, and 260.8 nmol·dm in blood sampled in the 2, 4, and 6 week of cows’ drying off respectively, was recorded. An opposite relation was observed in lactating cows, in which during successive lactation weeks, decreasing selenium concentration in the blood serum (amounting to 250.9, 241.5, and 220.3 nmol·dm, respectively) was observed.

Concentration of serum total iodine and thyroid hormones in Holstein cows in central Iran
The aim of this study was to evaluate total iodine, triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) status in the blood serum of Holstein cows on six farms in central Iran. Total iodine, T3 and T4 concentrations were measured in 90 blood serum samples (15 per farm). Mean concentrations of total iodine (38.80 ± 1.52 µg/l) and T3 (1.57 ± 0.10 nmol/l) were lower but the mean concentration of T4 (45.60 ± ...
متن کاملEffects of High Dietary Levels of Selenium and Copper on Growth Performance, Selected Blood Biochemical Parameters and Antibody Production Against Newcastle Disease Vaccine Virus in Broiler Chickens
An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of high dietary levels of selenium (as sodium selenite) and copper (as copper sulphate) on growth performance, serum biochemical parameters and antibody production against Newcastle disease vaccine (NDV) virus in broiler chickens. A total of 160 Ross 308 unsexed day old broiler chickens were randomly allocated into four treatment groups (n=40 ...

The effects of organic and inorganic sources and concentration (0 and 0.3 mg per kg of diet) of Selenium (Se) on growth performance, blood biochemical and immune system were evaluated in broiler chickens. Chickens were fed corn-soy-based diets formulated to 8 dietary treatments containing no added Se (negative control), negative control plus yeast (positive control), and 6 diets had 0.3 mg/kg o...
متن کاملEvaluation of Total Antioxidant, Total Calcium, Selenium, Insulin, Free Triiodothyronine and Free Thyroxine Levels in Cows with Ketosis
Ketosis is an important metabolic disease of high milk-producing cows. There are significant changes in many metabolite and hormonal concentrations in metabolic diseases. This study was carried out to assess the concentrations calcium (Ca), selenium (Se), total antioxidant (TAOC), insulin, free triiodothyronine (fT3) and free thyroxine (fT4) in cows with subclinical and clinical ketosis. This s...

We studied the reuse of selenium (Se)-laden effluent for producing canola (Brassica napus) and subsequent bioproducts in central California. Canola was irrigated with poor quality waters [electrical conductivity (EC) of approximately 5 dS m(-1) sulfate-salinity, 5 mg B L(-1), and 0.25 mg Se L(-1)]. Typical seed yields were 2.2 metric tons ha(-1). Seeds were processed for their oil, and transest...
